The boat
The launch is designed for displacement sea keeping. To lessen energy
expenditures positive interference of bow sea and quartering waves
is used that appears at a boat speed corresponding to Froude number
= 0.27.
To decrease bow sea and resistance increase during sea roughness
maximum sharpened bow lines are used. Raked stem and flaring of the
frame would afford climbing up a wave. A frame radial form and proportion
of a length - width - draught provides for the required displacement
with a minimum of wetted surface. Stern bow lines are made sharpened
to afford resistance decrease at given speeds and good behavior in
following sea.
A new methodic for calculation of both resistance and economical
efficiency of displacement for motor boats was developmed and published
in "Boats and yacht" magazine №176.
Boat's length along the waterline is 8.2 m, its width - 2.3m, displacement
is 4.7m3, full fuel tankage is 2100kg, a boat crew in the route is
1 person, cruising speed is 4.7 knots (corresponding to Fr=0.27).
Two diesel engines will be install, capacity of 4.8 h.p. each. While
moving at a cruising speed one of the engines will be in operation
at capacity of less than 2 h.p, consuming about 0.5 l. of fuel per
hour.
A screw propeller is installed on a column allowing to take the propeller
away together with the column through a special manhole inside the
boat. The whole layout was designed bearing in mind that the crew
(in a route plying will be only 1 person). A closed wheel house with
a circular perspective view is equipped with a galley and a berth
giving a possibility for constant observation of the surrounding situation.
To maintain stability water ballast will replace the consumed fuel.
Good boat resistance to sinking is provided due to the fact that
the interior of the boat is divided into a large number of isolated
compartments. Because of a high superstructure and a low disposition
of center gravity the boat will bring on an even keel independently
in case of capsize.
The boat is also equipped by a heating system, a stove to cook and
a water-desalinater, using engines' heat, a wind generator, solar
batteries, a rain-water gathering system, navigation devices, an autopilot
system, a radio locator and a satellite communication system.
