The route.
In accordance with requirement of the Ginners Record Book publishers
to register a record circumnavigation it is necessary not only to
cross all the meridians but also as a minimum to cross the equator
twice, and the rout length should not be less than 21600 miles.
Therefore both start and finish of the voyage should be in the Northern
hemisphere. It may be one of ports in the South of West Africa,
for example Conakry, Freetown, Monrovia or San Tome island. The
start should be not later than the last decade of September to pass
the most southern point of the voyage - Cape Horn - in January or
in February.
The first stage is South-South East up to the Cape of Good Hope.
Then to the East, trying to keep between latitudes of 40Е450 South,
via the Bass Strait, the Cook Strait, turning round Cape Horn and
further to the Start point.
In the first stage there should be calm zones in the beginning.
Then weak winds in different directions, most probably on-coming
- lateral from the left side. In some sections it is possible to
deviate to the West not to go upwind. It's better to turn around
the Cape Good Hope at a distance from the continent.
Boating to the East the latitude was chosen so that to avoid temperatures
below - 10Е120C, and if possible, not to meet icebergs. According
to synoptical maps this part of the route is in regions with predominant
and strong enough fair winds up to 10Е20 m/sec. and higher and following
sea currents up to 0.5 knot. According to observations for many
years the maximum wind speed that may come across in the route is
- 36 m/sec.
After the Cape Horn the route is to the North-East around the Ascension
Island than further to the initial route point. In this stage moderate
lateral and fair winds from the starboard side should predominate
and at the end there are calm sea zones.
The route total length should be about 22 thousand miles. The most
part of the route should be in regions with prevailing and strong
enough fair winds and following sea currents, that would favor fuel
economy. The whole voyage should last a bit more than six months
and be completed somewhere in March or April depending on weather
condition. |
